In response to the alarming statistics of 80,000 people in Nepal were needlessly blind from Cataract alone, revealed from the national survey in 1981, LCK formally commenced its contribution to eye care services, in 1984 with the opening of the Lions Eye Care Centre, in a small rented room in Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu to offer a variety of eye care services to the poor and economically weak people from different parts of Nepal. Now we are located at Shantinagar, Kathmandu, were patients can access easily.

Since 2012 Lions Eye Care Centre was  transformed into a fully fledged eye hospital named Lions Eye Hospital. Since then it has progressed from strength to strength and now functions as a non-profit making.
